From Audio Chaos to Court-Ready Evidence

How MOHARA helped VRFY turn decades of policing pain points into an AI-powered transcription and redaction platform built for public safety.

Client Background

VRFY is a public safety technology company founded by former RCMP officers Jeffrey Meyers and Mike Willford. Drawing on years of frontline experience, they set out to solve a problem that had long frustrated law enforcement: the slow, manual process of turning critical audio recordings into legally admissible evidence.

Their vision was ambitious: build a secure, AI-powered platform that could transcribe, redact, and prepare court-ready reports in real time, freeing officers from administrative burden and improving the pace of justice.

The Challenge

In law enforcement, the stakes of transcription are extraordinarily high. Every word matters, yet the process has historically been tedious and error-prone. Officers and administrators currently spend hours hunched over recordings, typing transcripts line by line.

The impact was severe:

  • In Canada, full transcripts are required for court disclosure, often delaying cases.

  • In the U.S., bottlenecks in transcription could derail prosecutions entirely.

  • Officers were kept away from the field, tied to desks.

  • Exposure to traumatic audio content took a heavy emotional toll.

For Meyers and Willford, this wasn't an abstract issue, it was their daily reality. Wiretaps, interviews, and victim statements would sit unprocessed for months, putting justice at risk. They knew a scalable, technology-driven solution was overdue.

Objectives

VRFY's goal was to build more than a productivity tool. They aimed to:

  • Enable real-time transcription and redaction that met strict legal standards

  • Deliver a court-ready export system with both redacted and unredacted views

  • Support officer well-being by minimizing repeated exposure to traumatic content

  • Create a foundation for broader applications in law, defense, and compliance sectors

These objectives meant building a product that was not only fast, but trusted in environments where accuracy, compliance, and security are non-negotiable.

The Solution

VRFY partnered with MOHARA to design and build a platform that addressed the needs of frontline officers and courtrooms alike. Together, we created a system that combined advanced AI with careful product design.

What we delivered:

Live Transcription System

Custom WebSocket streaming, silence detection, and playback control for real-time accuracy.

Transcript Editor

Word-level redaction, speaker tagging, audio sync, and full undo/redo capabilities.

Court-Ready Reporting

PDF generator with metadata, redacted/unredacted outputs, and standard legal formatting.

Robust Architecture

React frontend (Next.js), Node.js backend (Express), mobile support via React Native + Expo.

AI Stack

Integrated AWS services and OTS models to enable precision.

Hardware Integration App

In partnership with Sennheiser created a desktop application for streaming audio from room microphones into the platform.

Mobile PWA

For in-the-field recording directly into the core application.

The result was a platform capable of processing in minutes what once took hours, without compromising on security or reliability.

Results

VRFY has already begun to change how law enforcement agencies handle digital evidence:

  • Faster court disclosure through real-time transcription and export

  • Reduced administrative burden, returning officers to frontline duties

  • Improved well-being by reducing manual exposure to traumatic content

  • Patent-pending innovation in simultaneous audio and text redaction

  • Future expansion potential into defense, compliance, and legal sectors

What started as a transcription tool is evolving into a broader system for digital asset provenance, an essential step in sectors where data integrity is paramount.

Why MOHARA

VRFY's founders initially tried working with another agency but found the approach too transactional. They needed more than code, they needed a product partner.

MOHARA joined at the MVP stage and worked alongside the founders to define the product from the ground up. Together, we iterated quickly, challenged assumptions, and engineered a platform capable of scaling into one of the most demanding, high-trust industries.

By pairing startup agility with enterprise-level rigor, MOHARA helped VRFY move from idea to industry-ready platform.
