From Audio Chaos to Court-Ready Evidence
How Mohara helped VRFY turn decades of policing pain points into an AI-powered transcription and redaction platform built for public safety.

Client Background
VRFY is a public safety technology company founded by former RCMP officers Jeffrey Meyers and Mike Willford. Drawing on years of frontline experience, they set out to solve a problem that had long frustrated law enforcement: the slow, manual process of turning critical audio recordings into legally admissible evidence.
The Challenge
In law enforcement, the stakes of transcription are extraordinarily high. Every word matters, yet the process has historically been tedious and error-prone. Officers spent hours transcribing recordings line by line. In Canada, full transcripts are required for court disclosure, often delaying cases for months. In the US, bottlenecks could derail prosecutions entirely. Officers were kept from the field. Repeated exposure to traumatic content took a heavy emotional toll.
The Solution
Live Transcription System
custom WebSocket streaming, silence detection, and playback control for real-time accuracy.
Transcript Editor
word-level redaction, speaker tagging, audio sync, and full undo/redo capabilities.
Court-Ready Reporting
PDF generator with metadata, redacted/unredacted outputs, and standard legal formatting.
Robust Architecture
React frontend (Next.js), Node.js backend (Express), mobile support via React Native + Expo.
Hardware Integration App
in partnership with Sennheiser, a desktop application for streaming audio from room microphones into the platform.
Mobile PWA
for in-the-field recording directly into the core application.
Results
Faster court disclosure through real-time transcription and export
Reduced administrative burden, returning officers to frontline duties
Improved well-being by reducing manual exposure to traumatic content
Patent-pending innovation in simultaneous audio and text redaction
Future expansion potential into defence, compliance, and legal sectors
Why Mohara
VRFY's founders initially tried working with another agency but found the approach too transactional. They needed more than code, they needed a product partner. Mohara joined at the MVP stage and worked alongside the founders to define the product from the ground up, iterating quickly, challenging assumptions, and engineering a platform capable of scaling into one of the most demanding, high-trust industries.
