Digitising the Carbon Beneath Our Feet

How MOHARA helped Agricarbon build and evolve a world-leading soil carbon measurement platform, powering the next generation of climate impact reporting.

Client Background

Agricarbon is a UK-based AgriTech company transforming how soil carbon is measured and verified. Using automated core sampling and laboratory analysis, their mission is to quantify the carbon stored beneath farmland with scientific accuracy, providing the data backbone for carbon markets, sustainability reporting, and regenerative agriculture initiatives.

To scale their impact globally, Agricarbon needed a digital platform capable of managing complex datasets, field operations, and stakeholder reporting. They partnered with MOHARA to design, build, and continuously evolve that platform across multiple phases of development.

The Challenge

Agricarbon faced the challenge of translating cutting-edge soil science into a robust digital ecosystem. Their data, spanning field measurements, lab results, and geospatial models, had to be consolidated, verified, and surfaced through intuitive tools for farmers, clients, and industry partners.

As their partnerships expanded, scalability and data accuracy became mission-critical. The company needed a system that could standardise how soil samples were captured, processed, and turned into credible carbon reports.

Objectives

Agricarbon and MOHARA set out to:

  • Build an MVP platform to manage soil sampling and laboratory analysis workflows.
  • Integrate real-time field data capture and geolocation mapping.
  • Develop a reporting interface for partners and funders like AHDB.
  • Create project-level reporting tools for multi-farm carbon audits.
  • Strengthen data governance, QA, and version control processes to support scale and external validation.

The Solution

MOHARA partnered with Agricarbon from the earliest prototypes through to a production-grade system, iterating through multiple development phases as the business matured.

Phase 1 – Foundational Platform

MOHARA delivered an MVP that digitised field and lab operations, automating sample tracking and integrating early reporting dashboards.

Phase 2 – AHDB Integration

The team introduced scalable API architecture, multi-user permissions, and custom data ingestion for partner projects. This enabled Agricarbon to collaborate with the AHDB and manage large-scale sampling programmes across the UK.

Phase 3 – Project-Level Reporting & Governance

MOHARA designed and implemented advanced reporting capabilities to visualise carbon stock changes across farms and projects. This included interactive dashboards, automated progress tracking, and structured data exports for regulatory use.

Technical Foundation

React • Next.js • Django • Python • MySQL • AWS • GIS mapping frameworks

Each iteration was delivered using agile sprints, with continuous collaboration between MOHARA's product and engineering teams and Agricarbon's in-house data scientists.

Results

Agricarbon's platform now supports end-to-end soil carbon measurement and reporting, from field collection to verified carbon outcomes.

Impact Highlights

  • Scaled from pilot projects to national-level reporting with AHDB.
  • Standardised data processes, improving traceability and scientific credibility.
  • Enabled project-level carbon reporting used by corporates, farmers, and sustainability funders.
  • Established a digital foundation that positions Agricarbon as a global leader in soil carbon measurement.

Why MOHARA

Agricarbon needed a partner that could translate complex environmental science into reliable software infrastructure. MOHARA provided full-cycle product design and engineering support, helping the company evolve from prototype to scalable platform while maintaining data precision and transparency.

Through an ongoing multi-year collaboration, MOHARA continues to work alongside Agricarbon to refine data pipelines, enhance reporting capabilities, and ensure the platform remains at the forefront of global climate measurement innovation.
